Credit Card Application Denied
It is not a good feeling to get that envelope in the mail that has a thin piece of paper telling you your credit card application was denied. Instead, you would rather receive that thicker envelope which has the actual credit card and terms and agreements with the card making it thicker. Here are several tips and tricks on how to avoid getting your credit card application denied and what to do if you do get denied.

1. Don’t Fret!
If you have had your credit card application denied, do not worry too much as there are other means of getting a card that you want. Find out the reasons why it was denied and work on your credit history to improve it. Some of the most common reasons for getting your card denied include:

• Not having enough credit history
• Too many inquiries in a short amount of time
• Too much debt to credit limit ratio (also known as credit utilization ratio)
• Too many lines of credit open
• Negatives on your credit reporting

2. Work on Fixing Your Credit History
The most common reason to getting denied is not having enough credit history. The length of the credit history counts the time you opened your first line of credit up to the present moment. If you only have had one credit card for a year, it may be harder to get approved for a credit card application. Work on paying your bills on time each and every month and do not skip payments. More than likely, you can apply for that same card in 6 months to a year and have a better chance at getting it.

If you have too many inquiries on your account, you need to wait for those inquiries to drop off of your credit report. It may take up to 2 years for those inquiries to drop off. If you have negatives like late payments and missed payments, then you have to fix that problem. It can take up to 7 years for negatives to drop off of your credit report so all you can do is stop paying your bills late and do not miss any payments. Be meticulous about paying every bill as soon as it comes in.

3. Be Patient
The number one thing is to be patient because it will take time for negatives to come off of your credit account and also if you have debt you need to slowly pay that off. Pay off more than the minimum amount and keep paying it down so that your credit utilization ratio is low. The amount of debt you owe should not exceed more thatn 20% of the amount of credit that you have available to you. For example, if you have a $2,000 credit limit, you do not want to exceed a balance of $400 on that credit card. Keeping your credit utilization ratio under 20% is key to getting your credit card application approved.

Last but not least, you are entitled to get a free copy of your credit report if you do get your credit card application denied. Look through it very carefully and dispute any errors that are wrong. Then work on improving your overall credit score.
